This is the exhaust gas temperature sensor bank 1 (cylinders 1-6) for all GT,GTC & Flying Spur models. Suitable for: GT, GTC & Flying Spur 2004-2017 with W12 engine. Cummins uses different logic and controls most of there engines dont have a exhaust temp sensor in. There is only 4 egt sensors with the ecodiesel egt 1 in the passenger side exhaust manifold, egt 2 is at the inlet of the doc, egt cat is between the doc and dpf, the doc 4 is before the scr. The EGTS is located in front of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and/or in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
The Powertrain Control Module ( PCM) continuously monitors the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) for proper circuit continuity and out of range high values. So the engineer lifted the car and checked at the bottom and said theres only 1 sensor near the bottom and theres one sensor under the bonnet (at the end of the catalyst). I thought because it says bank 1 sensor 3 there would be three sensors. I usually run it that way to the next rest area, turn the truck off for 5 mins, restart and within 20 mins or so it usually comes back on again.DTC Description: Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit (Bank 1 - Sensor 3). If you have identified it's location just follow the wire to the plug.The plug seems to be located onder the turbo just in front of the starter motor. It should check almost short circuit (Estimated 1 or 2 ohms) when checked with an ohmmeter as it basically just 2 wires soldered together. I think you will find it is a thermocouple which gives a few m/V out when heated up. Just locate the sensor and check its resistance.
